% Connection reset by user or
[Connection to acs|ise|ncs|wsa closed by foreign host]
occurs when trying to connect to ACS, ISE, NCS or WSA appliance

If you get a % Connection reset by user or [Connection to acs|ise|ncs|wsa closed by foreign host] error when trying to connect to the ACS, ISE, NCS or WSA appliance, then follow these instructions to clear the VTY line:

1. From the terminal server, type show user and find the VTY line number of the device you want to connect to.

Rack-20#show user
    Line       User       Host(s)              Idle       Location
  66 vty 0     user1      acs                  01:00:00 192.168.0.1
  67 vty 1     user1      wsa                  01:00:00 192.168.0.1
  68 vty 2     user1      ncs                  01:00:00 192.168.0.1
  69 vty 3     user1      ise1                 01:00:00 192.168.0.1
* 70 vty 4     user2      idle                 00:00:00 192.168.0.2

  Interface    User               Mode         Idle     Peer Address

2. Type clear line vty # replacing the # sign with the VTY line number of the appliance you want to connect to. For example, to connect to ISE1 we find that ISE1 is on line 3 so we need to clear line vty 3.

Rack-20#clear line vty 3
[confirm]
 [OK]

3. Now connect to the appliance.

Rack-20#ise1
Trying ISE1 (10.0.0.1, 23)... Open
